Iran executes 470 people in 7 months

Iran executed at least 370 people in the first half of 2026, while rights groups received reports of more than 400 additional executions that could not yet be independently verified. June alone saw 101 executions.

For decades, the Iranian regime has presented itself as a defender of oppressed peoples and a champion of Palestinian liberation. Yet at home, it continues to rely on executions, mass arrests, unfair trials, and restrictions on personal freedoms.

The contradiction is hard to ignore: how can a regime that represses its own people claim to represent liberation for others?
