At a Depth of 17 Meters, a New Cave Discovered in Akkar

A team from the “Discover Akkar Environmental” group discovered a new cave on the outskirts of the town of Tashea, in the highlands of Akkar Governorate in northern Lebanon, and revealed its nature and features after descending into its depths.

The cave was found to contain rocky passages and natural limestone formations, including stalagmites and stalactites. It extends more than 17 meters below the surface and can only be accessed using ropes and climbing equipment.

The team will continue its surveying and documentation work to study the site, assess its significance, and explore the possibility of using it to promote eco-tourism in the area. The rock formations inside the cave indicate that it took many years to form, shaped by factors such as the nature of the rock, water levels, temperature, humidity, and the amount of limestone in the soil.
