Riad Salameh Stays Behind The Bars

Two new arrest warrants have been issued for former central bank governor Riad Salameh, who remains in custody over the Bank Audi loan case.

After questioning Salameh for three hours, Beirut investigating judge Roula Osman ordered that he remain in custody in the Forry case. He is accused of embezzling around $330 million from Lebanon’s central bank and transferring it to Forry. His brother Raja Salameh and former aide Marianne Hoayek also face prosecution in the case.

That same day, financial prosecutor Maya Majd Salameh ordered his detention in the V Invest case. The central bank’s complaint alleges embezzlement and money laundering through V-Invest, Forry’s legal successor.

Salameh now faces detention orders in three cases as investigators continue to examine his three decades at the helm of the central bank.
