Brigadier general Kfouri denies Hezbollah associates access to airport radar

Brigadier General Fadi Kfouri’s decision sparked widespread debate at Beirut Airport after he barred an engineer with ties to Hezbollah from entering the airport’s radar control room without authorization, citing security procedures governing access to one of the facility’s most sensitive areas.

Following the incident, media outlets affiliated with Hezbollah claimed the engineer had been denied access because he is Shiite, portraying the decision as an act of sectarian discrimination. However, after the radar system malfunctioned, the same engineer was called in to help repair the fault.

Supporters of Kfouri argue that the decision was not directed against any individual or sect, but was simply the enforcement of security protocols within a sovereign state facility. They contend that a functioning state must apply the law equally and allow no exceptions in sensitive locations, regardless of a person’s identity or political affiliation
