Despite the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, the Israeli army continues to reinforce its presence in the areas it occupies in South Lebanon. It has installed gates and opened military passages between areas falling within the so-called Yellow Line and areas south of the Litani River, alongside house demolitions and road bulldozing in several border towns.
These gates appear to be part of a field system aimed at regulating the movement of Israeli forces, tightening control over the occupied strip, and linking military positions together, making surveillance and movement inside the area easier.
Amid this escalating Israeli military tightening on the ground, there are concerns that the expansion of these gates, along with fortifications and military positions, could turn Israel’s presence from a temporary field deployment into a more entrenched reality, pending any future political or security settlement.
