The audiovisual archive of Télé Liban has been officially nominated for inclusion in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, in recognition of its exceptional historical, cultural, and human value.
As the first television station to launch in the Middle East, Télé Liban documented Lebanon well before the country’s major ruptures. From its golden years prior to the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990) to the decades that followed, the channel captured moments of creativity, resilience, conflict, and survival — gradually becoming a living record of a nation in constant motion.

Despite years of political interference and chronic financial strain, Télé Liban continued to function as a public witness. Its archive preserves the images, voices, and narratives that shaped Lebanon’s collective memory, while also serving as a training ground for generations of journalists and media professionals.
Today, this archive — carrying both beauty and pain — stands on the threshold of global recognition. Its potential inscription in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register affirms that Lebanon’s story, in all its complexity, belongs not only to its people, but to humanity’s shared heritage.
