According to the latest United Nations reports, Iran has executed 21 people and detained around 4,000 within just two months—since the outbreak of the war with the United States.
It is worth noting that most of those detained and executed were protesters who had taken part in mass demonstrations prior to the war, demanding the fall of the regime. The irony lies in the fact that Iran intensifies its repression and violence against its own people before confronting any external enemy—suppressing civilians and instilling fear domestically, while appearing far more limited in its external capacity.
Despite the heavy losses it has sustained during the war, the regime continues to tighten its grip internally, seeking to prevent unrest and block any momentum toward the people’s demands.
In contrast, these figures expose the collapse of the narratives promoted by Donald Trump, who had repeatedly suggested that his primary concern was the Iranian people. Today, however, he appears indifferent to the scale of these violations, even as he engages in negotiations.
