Washington has outlined a gradual path to disarm Hezbollah by strengthening the Lebanese Army and expanding its control area by area, after concluding that its current capabilities are insufficient for a direct confrontation with the group.
The plan coincides with a U.S. initiative to support Lebanon with around $1.2 billion over five years, with some security aid tied to progress in restricting weapons to the state. Israel would target Hezbollah’s arsenal in areas beyond the army’s reach, while precision missiles would remain part of a broader agreement with Iran.
