Excavation work to create burial plots in Miyeh W Miyeh has sparked objections among residents after heavy machinery began operating on the site before the required permit had been issued. Residents were initially told by individuals from the Sidon Association that official approval had been granted, but it later emerged that no such authorization had been issued.
Concerns focus on the way the project was launched and the apparent attempt to bypass legal procedures, as well as questions over plans to establish burial plots for the Shiite community in a town with no Shiite residents.
The scale of the excavation and use of heavy machinery have also raised local concerns about what may be built underground, amid wider fears that any such structures could expose the area to future security risks.
