Three Years Since October 7… The Dead Escaped, Survivors Died Within

Three years have passed since October 7, but its consequences have reshaped millions of lives and an entire region.

It began with civilians killed and hostages taken in Israel, then became a war that exacted a devastating toll on #Gaza. Neighborhoods vanished, homes were destroyed, and families were torn apart. Those who survived faced fear, hunger, displacement, and rubble.

The war spread to #Lebanon and across the region. Villages were emptied, families displaced, and civilians killed, as people paid the price for decisions and conflicts far beyond their control.

Three years on, survival means more than staying alive: a child who lost their family, a mother pulled from the rubble to carry on with her surviving children, families returning to towns they barely recognize.

War counts its dead. The losses of the living remain immeasurable. No number captures their memories, the years stolen from them, or the lives they could have lived.

The dead leave behind names and numbers. Survivors carry their absence, ruined homes, and lives divided into before and after.

Many lives ended in a moment. Others have spent years living through its aftermath.

The dead escaped. The survivors died within.
