The negligent

Lebanon’s Public Prosecution has requested that former president Michel Aoun be charged in the Beirut port explosion case, citing his prior knowledge of the ammonium nitrate stored at the port and the alleged failure to take sufficient action. The final indictment remains with investigative judge Tarek Bitar.

The move has renewed debate over accountability in the case, including how responsibility should be pursued across former ministers, judges, security officials, and others who knew of the material and its risks.

Nearly six years after the explosion, the central question remains unchanged: who allowed the ammonium nitrate to enter and remain at the port, who knew about the danger, and who should ultimately be held responsible?
