Starting October Lebanon will discontinue non-biometric passports

Amid growing international restrictions on non-biometric Lebanese passports, Lebanon has decided to phase out the 2003-model passports—those with serial numbers beginning with RL. Holders of these passports will no longer be able to use them upon entering Lebanon. Passports with serial numbers beginning with LR are biometric and remain valid.

The move aligns with the global adoption of biometric travel documents and the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Starting October 1, 2026, 2003-model Lebanese passports will no longer be valid for use within Lebanon, and holders will not be permitted to leave the country using them.

Those wishing to replace their old passports with new biometric ones are advised to apply at any General Security office to avoid delays or travel disruptions.
