Hezbollah’s Radwan Unit recently honored a group of activists and media figures, in a scene far removed from the military image the party spent years building around its elite force.
Once promoted as the unit capable of crossing the border and “liberating the Galilee,” Radwan now appears in public ceremonies handing out plaques — after a war in which much of its leadership, including Ibrahim Aqil and other senior commanders, was killed in Israeli strikes.
The irony goes further. Media reports said Hezbollah later opened an internal investigation into who organized the event and presented it in the unit’s name, with internal accounts distancing the official leadership from the initiative.
What was meant to project strength instead raised a different question: how did the name of Hezbollah’s elite fighting force end up on certificates of appreciation?
