Lebanon records the regions sharpest rise in fuel prices

Lebanon recorded the steepest fuel price increases among the countries compared by the website Sifr. Petrol prices rose 105.9% and diesel prices 113.5% between the start of 2026 and mid-September.

Jordan held prices steady for several months, while Turkey cut taxes on some fuel products to absorb part of the increase. Lebanon, meanwhile, kept an additional LBP 300,000 levy on each 20-litre tank of petrol. That levy accounts for around 21.5% of the tank’s total price increase since the start of the year.

Driven by global price increases and domestic tax decisions, the price of a 20-litre tank of petrol rose by about LBP 1.398 million in less than nine months, making transport more expensive and adding to Lebanese households’ daily costs.
