Lebanon plans to export more than 100,000 tonnes of apples to Arab markets this season—around half its estimated 200,000-tonne harvest—to support farmers and help them sell their produce.
The plan targets Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, the UAE, Qatar and Libya, alongside efforts to ease market access and reduce export costs.
An agreement with a global shipping company will lower sea freight costs to destinations including Egypt, Libya and Saudi Arabia via Jeddah, helping Lebanese apples compete abroad.
Jordan will also open its market to Lebanese crops starting November 1, while efforts continue to expand exports to Iraq and other Arab countries.
These steps could help thousands of farmers reach new consumers and support families who depend on agriculture for their income.
