Israel has destroyed or damaged around 85,000 housing units in southern Lebanon, according to estimates by Lebanon’s National Council for Scientific Research. Between 20% and 30% of buildings have yet to be assessed due to ongoing Israeli attacks, meaning the final toll is likely to be higher.
The destruction has heavily affected towns including Khiam, Taybeh, Bint Jbeil, and Haddatha, where satellite imagery shows extensive damage across built-up areas. Israeli forces also carried out demolitions and controlled explosions in villages evacuated during ground operations.
The impact goes far beyond buildings. Thousands of families have been left without habitable homes, delaying the return of residents to several villages. Restoring life to these areas will depend on rebuilding homes, infrastructure, and essential services damaged by the war.
