Assad regime officer arrested for training a Hezbollah network to attack Syria

Investigations have uncovered a network loyal to the former Assad regime operating through Lebanon, reportedly bringing members in from Syria, housing them in Beirut’s southern suburbs, training them in the Bekaa, and sending them back to carry out attacks against Syrian security forces.

Around 50 individuals allegedly passed through the network. Authorities also identified former Assad intelligence colonel Ali Safi, who had been living in Akkar under cover, and seized weapons, grenades, detonators, and explosive materials during raids in Akkar and Bikfaya.

Five main suspects have been arrested so far, including two Lebanese and three Syrians, while investigations continue into others, including two Hezbollah-linked figures.
