After Beirut Airport most Airports worldwide close their doors to Iranian airlines

Restrictions on Iranian airlines are spreading more than a year and a half after Beirut Airport stopped receiving Iranian carriers and direct flights between Lebanon and Iran were suspended.

The UAE has suspended flights by Iranian airlines until further notice. Flights to other destinations, including Oman, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Baghdad, have also stopped or faced restrictions.

The measures follow new U.S. sanctions on 27 Iranian airlines. Washington accuses the sector of transporting weapons, personnel and equipment linked to the Revolutionary Guard. It has warned that airports and service providers handling sanctioned aircraft could also face penalties.

As more airports avoid dealing with Iranian carriers, the number of destinations available to them is shrinking. Beirut Airport had already stopped receiving Iranian airlines before the restrictions spread elsewhere.
