The Million Books Campaign Launches in Beirut

The Million Books for Lebanon campaign arrives in Beirut tomorrow, Wednesday, with its central launch at 5 p.m. at the Lebanese Press Syndicate in Raouche. The initiative aims to collect one million books and rebuild libraries destroyed or damaged during the war.

More than 40,000 books have already been collected. Collection points will expand across Lebanon, with donations sorted and distributed according to each library’s needs. The campaign supports public, school and university libraries, cultural institutions, and families who lost their personal collections when their homes were destroyed.

Among the libraries destroyed was Bint Jbeil public library, which held over 15,000 books and welcomed around 1,500 visitors a month. Libraries in Aitaroun and Taybeh were also destroyed, while others sustained damage.

The campaign is also creating temporary libraries and cultural spaces for displaced communities, helping restore access to books.
