Lebanon ranks third worldwide among countries with populations exceeding 3 million in the amount of coffee available for consumption per person, according to 2023 food balance sheet data from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
The figure stands at about 12.91 kg per person annually, behind Ireland at 15.79 kg and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 14.26 kg. New Zealand ranks fourth at 12.81 kg.
Lebanon has ranked highly for years, even topping this comparison in 2015, reflecting coffee’s place in Lebanese daily and social life.
The top spot has shifted over time from Finland to Greece, Lebanon, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, before Ireland took first place in the 2023 data. Lebanon’s figure also places it ahead of countries long associated with coffee culture, including Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
