Jordan will open its markets to Lebanese agricultural products starting November 1, creating new export opportunities and giving Lebanese farmers wider access to Arab markets.
This development follows efforts and negotiations to remove obstacles to agricultural trade between the two countries and facilitate the entry of Lebanese products into Jordan. It is part of broader efforts to diversify export markets and strengthen the agricultural sector’s ability to market its produce.
Opening the Jordanian market is especially important amid this season’s abundant harvest, particularly apples, and the need for additional outlets to absorb production and ease pressure on the local market. This could help farmers sell more of their produce, improve their returns, and reduce losses caused by marketing difficulties.
The move could also boost trade between Lebanon and Jordan and strengthen the presence of Lebanese agricultural products in Arab markets, while potentially benefiting from Jordan’s position as a trade gateway to other regional markets.
Farmers hope that expanding export channels will absorb larger quantities of produce and improve marketing during peak seasons, especially amid rising production and transportation costs and the challenges facing Lebanon’s agricultural sector.
