Lebanon records 110 suicide cases since the start of the year up 15% from 2025

Lebanon recorded 110 suicide cases during the first eight months of 2026, compared with 96 during the same period in 2025—an increase of nearly 15% in one year.

The 22–31 age group recorded the highest number, with 25 cases. It was followed by the 12–21 and 52–61 age groups, with 18 cases each, and the 32–41 age group, with 17 cases.

Geographically, Mount Lebanon recorded 51 cases, accounting for around 46% of the total. The North followed with 24 cases, then the Bekaa and the South with 12 each, and Beirut with 11.

By gender, 86 cases were recorded among males and 24 among females through the end of August 2026.

These figures show a clear increase compared with the same period last year, highlighting the need for greater attention to mental health, prevention, and social support—beyond simply documenting cases, toward understanding their causes and reducing their occurrence.
