Telecoms squeeze citizen’s pockets Alfa and Touch end daily recharge options

Lebanon’s mobile sector may change how prepaid lines are recharged by ending separate validity-day purchases and introducing fixed cards that combine credit with line validity.

The proposed change would reduce flexibility, especially for low-usage subscribers who already have enough credit and only need to extend their line’s validity. They may be forced to pay for additional credit they do not need.

Telecommunications Minister Charles Hage said no decision has been made yet and the proposal remains under review. He also revealed that some money paid through the current recharge system does not reach the state treasury.

The issue now concerns both the potential cost to subscribers and the fate of funds collected under the current system.
