As the 1980s trend brought Lebanese users back to a bygone era through AI-generated hairstyles, clothes, and photos, Hezbollah brought part of the south back to that era in reality.
The 1980s in southern Lebanon were not about music, fashion, or nostalgia. They were years of Israeli occupation, villages under fire, land beyond the full authority of the state, and communities living through fear, displacement, and war.
Decades later, Hezbollah’s “support front” brought Israel back onto Lebanese territory and revived scenes many southerners thought belonged to the past: occupation, displacement, destruction, and villages once again paying the price of decisions of war.
The irony is that Lebanese users needed artificial intelligence to return to the 1980s. Hezbollah needed only one decision of war to return part of the south to some of its harshest realities.
The trend brought the past back as an image.
Weapons brought it back on the ground.
