Hezbollah fired six rockets on March 2, saying they were launched in retaliation for the Supreme Leader and in support of Iran. Lebanon then entered a war that, over the following six months, dramatically increased the human toll, expanded the area under Israeli occupation, and transformed daily life across large parts of the south.
Before that day, Israel still held positions inside Lebanese territory and had not completed its withdrawal, while Hezbollah was stockpiling rockets and drones and rebuilding its military capabilities, mutual violations of an agreement meant to prevent a return to war.
But the decision to launch those six rockets pushed the confrontation to another level. Thousands were killed within months, dozens of villages came under Israeli control, homes and infrastructure were destroyed, and large numbers of people were displaced as strikes spread across different parts of Lebanon.
Six months later, the gap between the stated purpose of those rockets and the consequences left behind in Lebanon is stark. The moment of “support” ended, but Lebanese people were left with the cost of another war, more land under occupation, and a country that still does not know when the doors of hell opened on March 2 will finally close.
