Nepal after the floods numbers reveal the disaster’s scale

As floodwaters recede in Nepal, the scale of the human and material losses is becoming clearer. The death toll has risen to 903, while 4,247 people remain missing as search operations continue across the hardest-hit areas.

The disaster has caused widespread destruction to homes, roads, infrastructure, and energy projects. Initial estimates suggest that around 15,000 homes have been completely destroyed, with reconstruction costs expected to reach nearly $5 billion.

These figures remain preliminary as authorities continue assessing the damage and searching for thousands of missing people, leaving the final toll likely to rise.
