In the town of Amchit, at least four pet dogs were found killed and placed inside bags in the Boulevard area, at a site used by the municipality to dump waste and dry branches.
Suspicion immediately fell on the Amchit Municipality, particularly because the dogs disappeared on the same day that a person assigned by the municipality took one of them away, claiming it had attacked someone. Activists later found that dog alive.
Animal rights activists and organisations subsequently filed a complaint with the Mount Lebanon Public Prosecutor’s Office, demanding an investigation into the crime, the identification of those responsible, and their prosecution.
Activists also linked the accusations to what they described as the municipality’s record of violations and unlawful facilitation. They cited its refusal to halt the construction of Rola Behnam’s villa above the Seal Cave in Amchit, despite the severe environmental damage caused by the project
