3500000$ new apartments for a representative of the movement of the deprived Ali Hassan Khalil

MP Ali Hassan Khalil owns two apartments in Verdun reportedly worth around $3.5 million, according to journalist Hadi Al-Amin on Al Jadeed.

The claim follows controversy over his son’s wedding, originally planned at Sursock Palace before the venue was changed. But the story goes beyond a lavish wedding or multimillion-dollar properties, it raises broader questions about the lifestyle of a politician who has spent decades at the heart of power.

Khalil is a close ally of Nabih Berri, a senior figure in the Amal Movement, which emerged from the Movement of the Deprived, and a former finance minister in a country devastated by financial collapse.

While the Lebanese pound crashed, deposits were frozen, savings vanished, and wages lost their value, the political class remained largely insulated from the consequences.

The contrast is even sharper in Khiam, Khalil’s hometown, where families lost homes and livelihoods to war and destruction.

The issue is not anyone’s right to own property or hold a wedding. But when such wealth belongs to a longtime MP and former finance minister, questions about its source become a legitimate matter of public accountability.
