Israel has revealed new details about the 2008 assassination of Syrian Brigadier General Mohammed Suleiman, one of Bashar al-Assad’s closest military advisers.
According to former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Shayetet 13 commandos approached Suleiman’s seaside residence near Tartous by sea. Israeli snipers identified him on the balcony and killed him with three shots before withdrawing undetected.
Suleiman was reportedly involved in some of Syria’s most sensitive military files, including its nuclear program, cooperation with North Korea, and weapons transfers from Iran to Hezbollah.
The disclosure marks one of the clearest Israeli acknowledgements yet of the operation, 18 years after the assassination.
