Homes that held part of southern Lebanon’s memory for decades are disappearing, as Israeli airstrikes destroy historic residences in Nabatieh, Khiam and nearby areas, some more than a century old.In #Nabatieh alone, a field survey by the Biladi association documented 147 historic buildings dating from 1700 to 1950, a figure also cited by Lebanon’s Ministry of Culture. Published data indicates that around 50 of these homes were partially or completely damaged.

The losses extend to libraries, manuscripts, documents and spaces that held the region’s political, cultural and social history, prompting researchers and cultural figures to warn of the gradual erasure of the place’s memory beneath the rubble.

From #Khiam to Nabatieh, stone can be rebuilt, but more than a century of history held within it cannot be recreated.
